Frequently Asked Questions
So what exactly is bizworkTV?
bizworkTV is a new internet-based web show created by the collaboration between two small business owners: brand journalist and digital strategist Mayra Ruiz-McPherson and film producer and photographer extraordinaire Karina Djijo.
The show’s focus is three-fold:
- bizworkTV highlights entrepreneurs and business owners “in action” at their place of business.
- Various subject-matter experts are also featured discussing topics of high interest and value to bizworkTV’s entrepreneurial audience.
- Many episodes also incorporate a product feature or latest news and updates in social media, digital tech and web publishing tailored to business owners seeking to maximize their efforts in marketing, advertising and communications both on- and offline.
What was the initial idea that sparked creating the show in the first place?
The initial inspiration for bizworkTV and how it all came to be is fully detailed in our About page so do check that out if you’re really dying to know how this whole bizworkTV thing got started!
Tell me more about the show's host, Mayra Ruiz-McPherson.
Hmm, how do we even start to respond to this question!? The first place to direct your attention to is our About the Show Host page which chronicles some of Mayra’s background which may be of interest.
If you want to learn more about Mayra, you could go check out her site at MayraRuiz.com or her professional LinkedIn profile here or learn about the digital marketing company she launched in 2006 here.
What those links or sites won’t tell you, however, is just how long Mayra had envisioned hosting her own internet show. For the past 5-6 years, Mayra had thought about hosting a web show online but wasn’t sure she could do it, wasn’t sure how to even get started or questioned over and over if it was worth moving forward with such a notion.
In 2012, after years of sitting on the fence with the whole web show idea, Mayra spoke to a local TV show host, Dr. Katy J. Nelson of The Pet Show on Channel 8. She asked Dr. Katy for advice on how she became a show host. Dr. Katy shared it took what seemed like a long time to convince the television station to move forward with the idea of a pet show but after constant pitching and follow through over 1-2 years, she was able to finally get the station to bite.
In sharing this tale with Mayra, however, Dr. Katy said that ultimately, the best thing Mayra could do was just create her own show herself. “You don’t need a TV station to create an audience or generate interest. In fact, you’ll have a much better time pitching a TV station AFTER you have your show in place because they won’t have to worry if they’ll be an audience or not for your content or ideas.”
It was advice well heeded. Within the next 6 months of that Dr. Katy discussion, Mayra had embarked on launching bizworkTV. Only just a few months back, this show had no name. It was just an idea that was more than 60 months old and stuck in Mayra’s head. But by May 2013, the ideas were slowly coming to life. Mayra named the show, created its brand, began to identify the show’s content direction and somewhere in the middle of all that, paired up with Karina Djijo, the show’s Creative Director, and in a few short months, what would become bizworkTV was clearly in full motion.
Your show is so very well done. Who's behind the camera producing and editing all the footage?
While much of the show’s ideas initially do start with Mayra, Karina and Daniel each take those ideas and run with them in their own way. Karina is masterful at digital and visual storytelling both in video and through photography so she has an excellent eye for a strong aesthetic presentation. And anyone who knows about video knows that editing is an art in it of itself; an art form Daniel clearly does exceptional with.
So it’s really a very strong collaboration that makes each bizworkTV episode special, visually compelling and highly unique.

I'm curious about what happens in between bizworkTV episodes. Can I see behind-the-scenes footage anywhere?
There’s always some drama unfolding on bizworkTV studio and sets LOL … in between editing, coordinating show details and scheduling guests amidst two very busy small business owners with their own clients and projects can often lead to interesting times and intriguing behind-the-scenes footage. Not to mention that on the actual filming day for bizworkTV episodes, the day is usually over-full with endless silly antics, fun blooopers and lots of laughter weeeeeell before Karina says “ACTION!”
You can always enjoy some of our best behind-the-scenes footage in our gallery as well as our blog which we have affectionately entitled Alternate Footage.
Who does Mayra's hair and makeup?
Some of Mayra's clothes, dresses or tops are super cute. Where does her wardrobe come from?
Who are The Infographic Kids and how exactly to they fit into the show?
Overall, for those interested, the concept of “The Infographic Kids” and incorporating them as part of each episode was Mayra’s idea.
When creating bizworkTV, Mayra did not want an over-the-top business flavor to the show’s content. She wanted instead to create a down-to-earth, comfortable visual look and theme that was easily approachable and one where viewers would be able to connect with her both as a host and as a person beyond her professional life and entrepreneurial endeavors.
As a result, Charlie & Brandon were roped in to highlight important industry trends, statistics or infographics and other important data relevant to business owners, entrepreneurs and startups.
If you have a white paper, an ebook, an infographic or any other specific data point(s) that you wish The Infographic Kids to showcase on your behalf, you can learn about sponsoring opportunities for The Infographic Kids segment here.
